Jessica Stam for H&M, Fall 2009

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Showing off his versatility, Andreas Sjodin photographs a campaign for H&M with very different results to his recent shoot featuring Iselin Steiro.

While the boyfriend jeans trend is on the way out, Jessica Stam manages to work the look in a cool and relaxed way; but it’s definitely the military jacket that is the more desirable wardrobe staple.

Some other curious looks from the collection include a touch of the double denim disease; and a leopard-print puffer jacket which leaves us more than baffled.

Kate Moss for Topshop Holiday 2009

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Looking more voluptuous than ever, Kate Moss appears in the campaign for her latest TopShop collection. The Christmas 2009 collection includes night wear and lingerie, and appears to be inspired by the Orient. From lotus flowers and silk, to a sequined Bali dress, the collection is far from bland.

Vintage styles also make an appearance, said to have been drawn from Moss’ own collection of nightware, as well as use of the one shouldered trend which gives the oriental style a modern twist.

Lady Gaga meets Hello Kitty fashion shoot

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Lady Gaga is widely known for her crazy, often over-the-top sense of style; and this shoot is no exception.

With hair reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, this Lady-Gaga-meets-Hello-Kitty shoot is a unique take on Hollywood in the 21st century. Not only is she covered in Hello Kitty in weird and wonderful ways, the editing of this shoot seems to transform Gaga herself into a cartoon character. There is something unnerving about her blank robotic stare throughout the shoot, yet the photos are enticing and tend to draw in the observer.

The shoot is in celebration of 35 years of Hello Kitty and will be featured in an exhibition in New York and LA which focuses on the brand.

Jimmy Choo for H&M 2009 Collection Lookbook

Monday, October 26th, 2009

There’s been a lot of hype over Jimmy Choo’s collection for H&M and after checking out the lookbook we think it has been well deserved. The heavily trend-centric collection features many pieces that will remain popular throughout 2010. What really caught our attention were the leather thigh high boots retailing at a very reasonable £179.99.

The appeal of the collection doesn’t end there: included are asymmetrical one shoulder dresses, some fringed pieces and even plenty of tribal inspired animal prints, along with signature Jimmy Choo heels and a few bags. The collection is in store on November 14th and the queues will no doubt be long.

Lily Allen’s exposed underwear alternative

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Given her penchant for sheer clothing and toplessness one need not describe Lily Allen as demure. That fact, however, hasn’t prevented her from sporting a relatively demure take on the underwear as outerwear fashion trend.

Spotted outside London’s noted Groucho Club, Allen was wearing a pair of stockings that, courtesy of their detailing, come across as looking like a proper set of suspenders. Though we can’t confirm that they are from the design house, they do look remarkably like something one might purchase from Wolford.

Boyfriend blazer fashion trend: how to wear it

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

The boyfriend blazer has yet to reach the same levels of popularity as the two fashion trends which influenced it: boyfriend jeans and the boyfriend shirt. Which, for it, is a good thing. While the boyfriend shirt and denim trends have reached commonality and, thus, aren’t considered trends anymore, the boyfriend blazer has found new sophistication and will be with us as a part of 2010 fashion trends. In particular, we’ll see it amongst Spring 2010 fashion trends.

Who has designed them?

While you’re best off trawling vintage stores for a truly unique boyfriend blazer, the look has featured among several of the Spring 2010 catwalks. These include Araks, Charlotte Ronson, Cynthia Rowley, Boy by Band of Outsiders (one look is pictured above), and Elie Tahari.

For picture inspiration, follow that link.

Who has been wearing the boyfriend blazer trend?

Coming very soon.

How to wear a boyfriend blazer

There are two, simple rules for wearing the boyfriend blazer.

Make it oversized

Any boyfriend fashion trend is about wearing clothing that looks a size too big for you, hence, as if you’ve borrowed it from your boyfriend. It’s no different with the boyfriend blazer fashion trend here. The key is to only go up one size; it shouldn’t swallow you. Look to have the jacket’s shoulders coming no more than an inch and a half away from your own, perfect for accented shoulders.

Roll up your sleeves

No, this isn’t a recommendation to get to work but rather the crucial element of the boyfriend blazer trend. Rolling or pushing up the sleeves on the blazer goes to balance out the look by implying that the sleeves would otherwise be too long for your arms; also exposing the wrists to make the look more feminine.

Rihanna in over the knee boots, Paris Fashion Week

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Attending the Vivienne Westwood Spring 2010 catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, Rihanna was on top of another big 2010 fashion trend: over the knee boots.

Rihanna paired her fringed boots with a boyfriend blazer, which was worn somewhat as a dress – look closer at some of the pictures and she can be seen to have little underneath bar for the same bra she wore to Balmain, and a pair of knicker-shorts.

Kate Moss returns for Vogue UK, October 2009

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Oh Kate Moss, how rarely we seem to see you these days. But no pictorial tribute to British fashion would be quite complete without you, would it?

Moss – pictured below in a leather corset, sheer top, and Union Jack flag – makes a brief appearance in ‘Cast & Crew’ in the October issue of Vogue UK, alongside Naomi Campbell, Stella Tennant, and Lily Donaldson.

Lily Allen topless for GQ, October 2009

Monday, September 14th, 2009

So far now from the ungainly teenager in big hoop earrings and trainers, Lily Allen has just cemented her place in GQ’s hall of fame; being named their ‘Woman Of The Year’ for 2009. The accompanying photoshoot sees Lily go topless again, as she did not so long ago for ID Magazine.

Lily’s normally sleek bob has been styled to look suspiciously like the Kristen Stewart mullet in some of these shots… but she carries it well, and we’re particularly loving the statement jewellery and long gloves used to accessories the otherwise minimal shoot.

Chunky Knits: Women’s Fall/Autumn Fashion Trend

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

While colour is often missing from the palette of fashion trends in the colder months, the same cannot be said for texture. As with the colder seasons of yesteryear, texture in the form of chunky knits will be a prevalent feature of Autumn 2009 / Fall 2009. However, as the world puts the economic down turn behind it, several fashion houses are banking on fashioniers being interested in taking their chunky knits to the level of an extreme sport: introducing super chunky knits.

There are several ways to wear chunky knits this season. Easiest, of course, is wearing the look as an accessory. Topshop Unique Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2009/2010 certainly took that to be the case, sending a knit scarf down the catwalk that was so extreme it might even look out of place on a couture catwalk. Made no less eye catching by its use of an unseasonal blue, those looking for something extreme that doesn’t verge on the ridiculous might instead turn to a chunky knit jumper.

The sweater / jumper look again featured on TopShop’s catwalk, and while extreme it did so in an interpretation of red better suited to a Winter wardrobe, though the oversized jumper dress from Missoni was more to our taste.

Those looking for an infusion of sex, however, can’t go past Julien MacDonald’s Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2009 / 2010 chunky knit dress offering. Again an extreme interpretation of the look, while it certainly features a mass of knitting perfect for the look it is the Winter interpretation of the cutaway fashion trend that makes this dress a must-have piece for a woman’s Autumn (Fall) 2009 wardrobe.
